In 2015, the idea of the Young Talents Competition was born on the initiative of the Lower Silesian Capital Club. Promoted and rewarded are students, doctoral students and young academics who achieve significant success in science, sports, innovation, art, social activities and as young entrepreneurs.
Candidates submitted from major Wroclaw and Lower Silesian universities are subject to detailed analysis. Prizes and awards are given by the Competition Chapter, which includes university rectors, representatives of regional authorities and entrepreneurs from Lower Silesia. This year, the patrons of the event were Lower Silesia Governor Jaroslaw Obrêbski and Lower Silesia Marshal Cezary Przybylski.
This year, on May 22, during the Gala in the historic walls of the Leopoldina Hall of the University of Wroclaw, in the presence of Mr. Rector, representing our University, prof. Andrzej Rokita, statuettes designed by Wroclaw sculptor Jaroslaw Nowak and cash prizes were awarded to students of Wroclaw universities who showed special success in 2022. Out of 110,000 students studying in Wroclaw, three students from our Alma Mater were nominated in this year’s competition.
In the category of sports success, two students from our Academy were nominated. Julia Piotrowska, a third-year student majoring in Sport (World, European, and World Cup medalist), and Konrad Powroźnik, a first-year student majoring in Physical Education (multiple medalist in Olympic, World, and European Deaf swimming championships). In this category, the “Young Talents” grand prize went to Julia Piotrowska. In Julia’s absence, the beautiful statuette, from the hands of the Rector, Professor Andrew Rokita, was received by her parents. Julia already has an Olympic qualification for the Paris 2024 IO and we are keeping our fingers firmly crossed for her preparations and Olympic performance.
In the social success category, the nomination went to Aleksandra Sikora, a blind second-year student in Occupational Therapy, who developed an individualized teaching method using braille adapted to the blind girl’s abilities. The award, along with Ola, was received by her parents and Dr. Dominika Zawadzka, supervisor of the Occupational Therapy Physiotherapy “OTP” Student Study Group, and Coordinator of the Occupational Therapy “OTP. Accessibility at our Academy.
We wish the awardees self-confidence, determination and much success, both on their educational, professional and personal paths.
