On Saturday, May 25, 2019, University School of Physical Education and Sports Club AZS – AWF Wrocław organized – for the third time – a Sport and Recreation Picnic “Przewietrz się na Olimpijskim z AWF Wrocław”. The event was traditionally held on the Mars Fields Complex in the Olympic Stadium complex. The opening ceremony was carried out by the Rector of the University School of Physical Education in Wrocław, assistant professor Andrzej Rokita, prof. AWF, President of Wroclaw Mr. Jacek Sutryk and Mr. Michał Bobowiec, member of the Board of the Lower Silesian Voivodship. The event was also attended by the Rectors of Wrocław universities and their representatives, as well as representatives of provincial and self-government authorities, athletes (Olympians and graduates of AWF Wrocław) as well as other old and new friends of our University.
The aim of the festival was – just like last year – to popularize active free time among the residents of Wrocław and the entire region as well as to present the invited sports clubs. Various sports disciplines were presented, among numerous other attractions. These were: football (WKS Śląsk Wrocław), beach football, beach volleyball (AZS-AWF Wrocław), basketball – Ślęza Wrocław and WKS Śląsk Wrocław, recreational track and field activities, bocce tournament for people with disabilities, badminton (Wroclaw Academic Mixed Pairs Championships), water rescue shows and water games at the indoor swimming pool, table tennis (AZS-AWF Wrocław), skimboarding, gymnastics, tennis (AZS-AWF Wrocław) and shooting sports (WKS Śląsk Wrocław). There were also presentations of new sports such as wrestling, judo (WKS Śląsk Wrocław), beach tennis, cycling (Karolina Jaworzyna Śląska), skiing (Ski Club Wrocław), rugby (Rugby Wroclaw).
There was, naturally, the performance of the folk visiting card of our Academy, the wonderful Song and Dance Ensemble “Kalina”, which in two brilliant sets caught the attention of participants regardless of their age. Also, as part of the artistic performances, the “Nestor” group consisting of the students of the Third Age University, who performed Zorba dance, presented themselves very well.

This year, additional attractions for the youngest participants were the presentation of a rally car, a fire engine and a military car (Thank you!).
As it was last year, AWF Wroclaw recruitment office – the so-called “Open Door”, was also available for the participants, and attracted a lot of attention. The employees of our University presented their Faculties and provided all necessary information regarding studying at AWF. The stands for motor tests and body composition measurement were also very busy. There, the employees of our University examined the interested participants and informed them about their somatic parameters.
Also, the “Colorful Days” Foundation joined us for the second time. Thanks to the foundation the participants of the festival could benefit from some medical diagnosis and medical consultation. Traditionally, officers of the municipal police, as part of their preventive activities, were labelling bikes (Thank you!).
The program of the festival included also the presentation of our great Lower Silesia Olympians; among those were: Renata Mauer-Różańska, Danuta Bułkowska-Milej, Joanna Linkiewicz, Wacław Hamerliński, Kazimierz Kurzawski, Paweł Rańda, Rafał Omelka and Jacek Lojtka.
The whole event was dynamically and attractively led by Dawid Kutryn and Robert Skrzyński.
Special words of appreciation and gratitude should be addressed to volunteers, our wonderful, committed students and the University Student Self Government Council, whom we thank very much.
Once again, we have learned that the term “Sunny University” is not accidental, and the weather on Saturday was a clear confirmation of this.
Thank you all for coming and having great fun with us!
See you next year – May 24, 2020
