Sofia clocked a time of 1:59.82 in her 800m run, which placed her eighth in the final classification for this distance. For Sofia, this is the first start of the season, so we know full well that the best is yet to come. In an interview Sofia gave before the start, she said why this myths race is special not only for her, but for all Polish athletes:
“First of all, we are united in one goal. We all want to commemorate the great athlete that Kamila Skolimowska was. (…) Everyone, even if they didn’t know Kamila personally, knows her story and comes to the stadium so that the memory of her will never die. It’s not just based on sports competition or the desire to win. This is something magical that cannot be studied. We all come and want ‘Kama’ to look down on us with a smile.” (source: sport.fakt.pl )
