University School of Physical Education in Wroclaw’s Holiday

The annual meeting of our academic community on the occasion of the Academic’s Holiday is not only about celebrating the moment, but it’s also about reminding everyone, especially young people, about the history of our „Sunny Academy“. This history is still being written by tremendously passionate people.

The celebrations of our Holiday included: renewal of the matriculation of absolvents from fifty years ago, giving awards for the best graduates of the year, rewarding the sportsmen and trainers,  granting of PhD titles, and – last but not least – two very special events:

  • Firstly, awarding the Laurel of the Academy to Professor Krystyna Zatoń.
  • Secondly, celebrations of 35 year’s anniversary of AWF Wrocław Song and Dance and Folk Group „Kalina”.

Renewal of matriculation of the Academy’s absolvents who were studying in the 1968-1972 period also took place during the ceremony.

His Magnificence Rector, Prof. Andrzej Rokita, PhD, together with the Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education promoted the new doctor habilitated, Artur Struzik. Furthermore, His magnificence Rector together with Prof. Teresa Slawinska-Ochla, PhD, the Dean of the Faculty of Physical Education and Prof. Anna Skrzek, PhD, the Dean of the Faculty of Physiotherapy, have granted the Doctors of Physical Culture Science diplomas to nineteen fresh graduates of doctoral studies.

This year’s Medals of the President of the Republic of Poland have been awarded to the employees of University School of Physical Education in Wroclaw by Mr. Jacek Jemioła, the director of the Lower Silesia's Governor’s office. Among the honored were:

  • Golden Medal for Long Service: Czeslaw Giemza, PhD
  • Silver Medal for Long Service: Marek Rejman, PhD
  • Bronze Medal for Long Service: Malgorzata Pstrocka-Rak, PhD

The Minister of National Education has awarded the Medals of the Commission of National Education.

Awarded academics were:

  • Regina Kumala, PhD
  • Marek Popowczak, PhD

Awards for the Best Diploma of the Year were given as well, by the Marshal's Office of Lower Silesia. The awards were given by Mr. Jerzy Michalak, Member of the Board of Lower Silesia’s Government. Awarded were:

  • Kinga Krzykowska from the Faculty of Physical Education
  • Anna Przeklasa from the Faculty of Physiotherapy
  • Natalia Danek from the Faculty of Sports Science

Marshal's Office of Lower Silesia has given the teamwork award to:

  • Prof. Andrzej Rokita, PhD
  • Tadeusz Rzepa, PhD
  • Ireneusz Cichy, PhD
  • and Marek Nowicki

for creating and developing of the educational balls EDUball and selling of the license for creating and distributing of the mentioned balls on the territory of the United States of America, Canada and the European Union under the name BRAINball, as part of the commercialization of the results of research. The award was given by Mr. Jerzy Michalak, Member of the board of the Lower Silesia’s government.

First degree awards for scientific activities this year were given by his magnificence Rector to:

His magnificence Rector has also given awards for outstanding sports achievements. Awarded were:

  • Joanna Linkiewicz – silver medalist in relay race 4x400 meters, at World Championship in Birmingham, 2018
  • Natalia Kaczmarek – gold medalist at Europe Championship in Berlin and silver medalist at World Championship in Birmingham, in 4x400 meters relay race
  • Damian Szwarnowiecki – silver medalist of European Universities Games in Judo Coimbra and second place at World Cup of seniors in Prague
  • Oliwia Jablonska  - gold and silver medalist at European Championship in swimming
  • Urszula Hofman – gold medalist at European Universities Games in Judo Coimbra
  • Anna Kucharska – silver medalist at World Championship in Taekwondo
  • Kamil Dobrowolski – silver medalist at World Championship in Taekwondo
  • Karolina Konik – silver medalist at World Championship and silver medalist at European Championship in Taekwondo
  • Bartosz Słodkowski – silver medalist at World Championship and gold medalist at European Championship in Taekwondo
  • Adrianna Górna – the representative of Poland in handball, silver medalist at Polish Championship with Metraco Zagłębia Lubin team
  • Malgorzata Mączka – the representative of Poland in handball, silver medalist at Polish Championship with Metraco Zagłębia Lubin team
  • Pawel Dudkowski – the representative of Poland in handball, front player of the PGNiG Superleague in Zagłębia  Lubin team

His magnificence Rector has also awarded the following trainers for their achievements:

  • Mr. Andrzej Kijowski – for his educational achievements in the academic year of 2017/2018, taking into the account his successes at World Championship in sport shooting
  • Mr. Józef Lisowski – trainer selector of the 4x400 relay race (in which the doctorate student Rafał Omelko participated) world record holders at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships
  • Mr. Marek Rożej – for training the students Joanna Linkiewicz, Natalia Kaczmarek and Jakub Krzewiina for the World Championship in Birmingham 2018 and worthy representing of our Academy
  • Mr. Jacek Skrzypiński – for preparing the doctorate studies student Rafał Omelko to win the gold medal at 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships in 4x400 relay race run (where the student set up a new world record) and worthy representing of our Academy
  • Mr. Pawel Korycki – for his educational achievements in the academic year 2017/2018 with particular detail to the successes at World Championship in Europe and Polish Championship in Judo
  • Mr. Sławomir Kuczko and  Mrs. Beata Pożarowszczyk – trainers of  Oliwia Jabłońska, gold and silver medalist at European Championship in swimming
  • Mr. Wojciech Seidel – trainer of Kamil Rzetelski, bronze medalist at the European Championship in swimming
  • Mr. Marcin Ściślak – trainer-coordinator of one of the biggest volleyball teams in Poland, organizer of one of the biggest youth tournaments in Volleyball in Poland, trainer of youth in the Polish Championship
  • Mrs. Bożena Karkut – trainer of Adrianna Górna and Malgorzata Mączka, silver medalist at Polish Championship in handball

The artistic part of the ceremony was taken care of by our Song and Dance and Folk Group „Kalina”, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. Kalina presented itself in two acts during “Dances and songs of Cieszyn and Silesia” performance.

His magnificence Rector also invited all guests of our Academy’s Holiday for a jubilee concert of Kalina, that will take place on 17th of November at the Polish Theatre in Wroclaw.

After the official ceremony, his magnificence Rector invited all guests and staff members for a “Feast with Kalina”, which took place by the P4 building.
